Great Yarmouth Borough Council has announced its bin collections will start from Monday.

The council says if your black bin collection was postponed due to the snow, leave out both black and green bins on Monday (regardless of your normal bin collection day) and the collection crews will visit as soon as possible during that week to empty both bins.

If you have additional waste built up since your postponed collection, leave this out, secured in bags, and it will be collected too.

If your green bin collection was postponed, this will unfortunately not be able to be collected until the next scheduled visit.

The council says please put out your black bin out on your normal bin collection day.

The following week the crews will collect any excess recycling placed in a cardboard box next to green bins. Please do not place excess recycling in plastic bags as it may not be collected.

The council said: “ Firstly, thank you everyone for your patience and understanding during the exceptional weather, which has resulted in postponed bin collections since Tuesday. We apologise for any inconvenience, but there was no other option as the collection vehicles are 26 tonnes and it has been too risky to take them onto slippery residential roads.

“We have been monitoring the weather forecast continuously, and the conditions on the roads, and we are now in a position to announce the below plans to resume bin collections from Monday next week, including catching-up on the postponed collections.

“While the crews will be working as fast as possible, they have nearly two weeks of residual refuse to collect in just one week so we again ask for your patience and understanding. The crews need to prioritise the collection of black bins, as these contain some rottable waste.”

If your garden waste collection was postponed, or if you are due for a collection in weeks commencing March 5 or 12 March, these will unfortunately not be able to be collected until the next following scheduled visit. This will allow us to redirect the vehicle to help catch up with missed bins.

On the next scheduled collection the crews will collect any excess garden waste placed next to garden waste bin.

GYB Services Ltd will provide additional garden waste sacks if required and upon request, free of charge, to store any additional garden waste during this period. Please call 01493 742200 to request sacks.
