A CARAVAN and window were damaged after a bin was set alight in Great Yarmouth.

The fire spread when the bin was torched behind the back of a house on Wellesley Road at about 2pm on Saturday.

Police are advising residents to only put bins out on collection day and as close to the time the binmen come as possible.

Bins should also be kept clear of buildings and vehicles and away from doors.

Insp Nick Cheshire said: “We take these incidents very seriously. The vast majority of bin fires are started deliberately and while they may begin small, the fire can quickly spread endangering life and property which this case demonstrates.”
