A GENEROUS Caister pensioner has helped a fundraising appeal on the way to its target by donating money from her birthday party.

Evelyn Makepeace, 90, of Gayward Close raised £210 in lieu of birthday presents from her 90th party, held at the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston.

The money has been donated to the James Paget University Hospital Palliative Care East appeal to raise £1.5m for a new day centre providing respite care for people with terminal illnesses.

Further money has come in from a ladies night organised by Thistle Lodge from London, held at the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston, which raised £1,250 for the appeal.

Further events are being planned in aid of the appeal and Year 11 students at Cliff Park High School are organising a festival on September 23 featuring charity stalls, face painting and various events based around art.

Great Yarmouth Lions are holding a fashion show with the Artichoke Collection. Tickets are £3, available from 01493 601299.

Diners can do their bit for the appeal by using vouchers at the Black Rock Grill at Potters Leisure Resort at Hopton.

The resort is donating £5 to the appeal per person and also £5 off the price of their meal. Vouchers are available from the Palliative Care East fundraising office, on 01493 453348.

Further events for the appeal:

On September 19, doctors and staff from the hospital will be taking part in the BUPA Great North Run to raise money for the appeal
