A Broadland village which missed out on its own Christmas miracle because of the cold weather has been granted a new wish - a cinematic trip to the sunny climes of Australia.

Villagers in Reedham, near Great Yarmouth, had been looking forward to watching the Sir Richard Attenborough movie Miracle on 34th Street on December 19 in their village hall.

The seasonal tearjerker was due to be shown as part of arts development charity Creative Arts East community cinema scheme but was postponed because of the poor weather.

But residents of the village and surrounding areas can now look forward to seeing stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman in the smash hit film Australia on February 12 after Creative Arts East rescheduled its mobile cinema showing.

The 2008 Baz Lurhmann film tells the tale of a 1930s English aristocrat who goes to northern Australia to sell a cattle property and meets a gruff farmer.

When the film is shown from 7pm on February 12 Reedham will become the 30th Norfolk community to take advantage of the village screen scheme which was set up in 2005 to show recent releases, classic films and archive pieces.

Tickets for the Reedham hall showing cost 4 or 3.50 for concessions. Tickets are available on the door or can be booked in advance by calling 01493 701107.
