OFFICERS from Norfolk Constabulary’s Broads Beat team are appealing for information after two boats were damaged and diesel was stolen near the River Bure in Acle.

Between 4pm on Wednesday, May 16 and 8am on Thursday, May 17, thieves stole 65 litres of diesel from a JCB long-arm 360 digger. The digger was in a remote location on the Acle Straight, near to Scaregate Farm and near where the Broads Authority is currently carrying our dredging work.

Vandals smashed three windows to a boat moored at an isolated riverside floor work site near Scaregate Farm between 5pm on Monday, May 21 and 9am on Tuesday, May 22. The area can only be access via the river or a farm track.

Between 5.30pm on Friday, May 18 and 7am on Monday, May 21, suspects damaged a grey 4m Avon rescue RHIB by puncturing seven holes in the inflatable tubes either side of the vessel, which again is being used at a works site on the River Bure.

Investigating officer, PC Paul Bassham, said: “All of these incidents have happened in remote locations and the person or people responsible could have accessed the areas via farmland or could have been travelling on the river.

“We believe the incidents could be linked and I would urge anyone who uses the waterways in this area to be vigilant and report anything out of the ordinary to police.”
