A WOULD-be distraction burglar tried to get into an elderly man's house at The Green, Freethorpe, near Yarmouth, last night by pretending his car had broken down.

The pensioner, who was not hurt and who did not co-operate with the man, was disturbed at 9.40pm by a knock on the door and the man claiming he needed jump-leads to start his car in the village hall car park.

A police spokesman said officers would be visiting the elderly man today to find out more about the incident.

He said: “We are treating this as suspicious because the gentleman's house is 700 yards from the village hall, and the man passed a number of other people and houses before he knocked on this door.”
