The man, posing as a police officer, called at the home of a woman in her 80s in Caister Road at 4.10pm on Saturday.

The pensioner let him in and once inside he took her purse, which contained cash and bank cards.

A spokesman for Norfolk Constabulary said: “Members of the public are reminded that any police officer will always show their identification when calling at an address. If any member of the public has doubt to their veracity they should call the contact and control Room on 0845 4564567.”

The culprit is white, of big build, in his 50s and has light brown or fair hair. He was wearing a dark suit and a dark tie.
