A bomb disposal unit was called to a nature reserve yesterday after suspected second world war shells were discovered.
The team from the Ministry of Defence were called to the Tichwell Nature Reserve in north-west Norfolk at around 9.45am after various shells were found by contractors working on sea defences in a remote part of the RSPB site. During the second world war the site was used as a tank range.
Both police and the RAF bomb disposal unit were called to the site following the discovery. The police had not needed to cordon off the area as the public footpath across the site was already closed because of the maintenance work.
