A bomb disposal team was sent to a Norfolk beach this morning to deal with a device that had washed up on the sand.
The device was successfully detonated at 9am.
Described as being “mortar-like”, the device was discovered in Winterton-On-Sea at around 12.45pm on Wednesday, January 3 and a section of beach was cordoned off.
A member of the public alerted the coastguard to the issue.
The Ministry of Defence were also contacted.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “We deal with devices like this on a daily basis, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary. They usually wash up on beaches following periods of poor weather.
“Detonation took place this morning and that area of the beach is now open as normal.”
