People are invited to come to a session at Great Yarmouth fire station in the town's Friars Lane, from 4pm to 7pm on Saturday, December 6, to volunteer as potential bone marrow donors.
Firefighter Richard Miles organised the event for the Anthony Nolan Trust after one of his colleagues received a bone marrow transplant to treat leukaemia.
Mr Miles said: “I've seen first hand the effects of leukaemia, and I felt that the fire service should do something to help. Hosting an event where people can register to be potential donors seemed the obvious choice. It will also give people a chance to come and meet their local fire crews and have a close-up look at modern fire engines.”
Debby Jepps, from the Anthony Nolan Trust, said: “The Anthony Nolan Register can never be big enough, we are always in need of more donors to come forward. The more people we have registering, the more chance we have of finding life-saving matches for patients who desperately need them.”
