GREAT Yarmouth is bucking the trend with unemployment down and fewer people claiming benefits than during the same period last year.The figures for the region compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), which monitors Job Centres, revealed that those making claims had risen across the county, but Yarmouth has lower unemployment levels than in 2007.

The figures for the region compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), which monitors Job Centres, revealed that those making claims had risen across the county, but Yarmouth has lower unemployment levels than in 2007.
An ONS spokesman said: “Levels of people claiming benefit in Norfolk have shown increases in certain parts of the region, but Yarmouth saw a continued fall during the summer months until a very small increase, an additional 21 claimants, in August of this year.”
This means that the total of people making unemployment claims in Yarmouth is now 2,038, or 3.7pc of the working population.
In previous years, unemployment levels have decreased over the summer months between May to September with the increase of tourism related jobs.
