A council is bringing in new health and safety regulations concerning boxing matches following the death of 22-year Jacob Moczyk in an unlicensed bout in Great Yarmouth.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is writing to all venues that host any form of boxing matches under the terms of their premises licence under relegated activity.
They will all have to provide the council a risk assessment at least 21 days ahead of any fight and it would have to be accepted by council officers for them to go ahead in that time frame.
Mr Moczyk died from a head injury following the unlicensed fight at Atlantis Arena on November 19 2016.
His inquest was told unlicensed boxing events were legal, but there were no minimum standards. His opponent, Irvidas Juskys, was 17.
The inquest into Mr Moczyk’s death returned a verdict of misadventure, but coroner Jacqueline Lake did express concerns over no set regulations, risk assessments and medical examinations.
