A landlord has lodged plans to demolish a pub and replace it with six new homes. An application was submitted to the borough council to raze the Arches in Beccles Road, Bradwell. Steve Crosby, 54, landlord for 32 years, said he had no immediate plans to close the pub but was putting the plans in place for his retirement.

He said: “If approved, this is for later on. It won’t happen anytime soon.” The site’s current use is as a pub, used-car sales lot and car park – parking at the site would be reduced from 30 spaces to 12 if and when the homes are built. The exit onto Beccles Road would be blocked off, and access onto Crab Lane would be improved.

A neighbour consultation started on March 30, comments are due by April 20, and a decision will be made by the council’s planning committee May 5.
