THEFTS from cars in Bradwell have prompted police to urge people to pay extra attention to vehicle security.

The first theft took place on Mallard Way overnight on Tuesday, January 18, when suspect(s) targeted a silver Kia.

Officers believe the vehicle could have been insecure and an ipod was taken from inside.

Meanwhile, overnight on Friday, January 21, thieves targeted a Toyota Rav 4 which had been left insecure on Tarragon Close.

A search was made of the vehicle and a small amount of change was stolen from inside.

Sgt Martyn Rudrum, from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, urged motorists to ensure vehicles were always locked – even if people only intend to leave vehicles insecure for a few moments on the driveway.

He added: “Valuables left on display in vehicles can also attract attention from thieves. Items such as sat navs or event sat nav mounts should be removed from inside vehicles.”

Motorists are advised to remove all valuables and personal belongings entirely, while audio equipment, sat navs, mobile phones, laptops and handbags are particularly sought after. Evidence of these should be removed from a vehicle when out and about or even overnight.

They also added it would be wise to property mark your valuables so if they are stolen, they can be more easily traced if recovered.
