A Great Yarmouth bridge which is currently unable to lift for boats is unlikely to be fixed before this weekend’s airshow, engineers have warned.

Workers are currently trying to diagnose the fault with 90-year-old Haven Bridge in the town centre, saying they will decide on a repair plan once the cause is identified.

But a statement on behalf of the harbour master at Peel Ports in Great Yarmouth said: “The timeframe for returning the bridge to operation is unknown at this time, however

repairs are unlikely to be completed before this coming weekend.

“This is due to the anticipated timeframe to source spare parts for a 90-year-old bridge.

“This announcement is released today in order to provide maximum notice to vessel owners hoping to use the bridge over the airshow weekend, and to allow them time to

make alternative journey plans.

“Should the bridge be returned to service prior to this coming weekend, we will issue an update as appropriate.”
