GREAT Yarmouth's police chief is urging householders to remain vigilant and pay extra attention to home security following a series of burglaries in the town.

Several of the break-ins have happened as a result of windows being left open and doors unlocked.

Supt Jim Smerdon said: "Lapses in security can often give rise to opportunistic crime and this is what we have seen happening in Yarmouth.

"Burglaries are often opportunistic crimes so by removing attractive and expensive items from display, such as laptops and car keys, householders can help prevent these crimes from occurring.

“Open windows and doors will also catch the attention of would-be thieves."

Recent burglaries have taken place at a hotel in North Drive and homes in Sandown Road and Common Road.

Anyone with information should contact police on 0845 4564567 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
