A HOLIDAYMAKER has described how his weekend stay at a Hemsby holiday park was ruined by burglars who raided seven chalets.

Bob Moore, 57, from Skelmersdale, Lancashire had only just arrived at Seacroft Holiday Village in Beach Road with his friend Ron Brooks, 71, from Milton Keynes, for a four day jazz weekend when burglars broke into his chalet and stole a laptop and 200 in cash.

A further six chalets were raided during the crime spree between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday, including a ladies silver and gold Rolex watch, a sat nav and a purse.

The holidaymakers were enjoying listening to a jazz band in the main hall at the holiday park and Mr Moore had popped outside for a cigarette when he was told by another guest a number of chalets had been burgled.

The two men returned to their chalet to find the door open and the lock smashed off, while money had been removed from the drawer.

“It was serious. The burglars had taken every penny I had. I had 200 in a drawer in there and they took the lot and the lap top. They even took my cigarettes. They got 500 worth of stuff altogether and even took my cigarettes,” Mr Moore said.

However, the divorced lorry driver, who has been going to the jazz weekend every year for the last five years, said he would still come back next year.

Insp Nathan Clark, from the Caister and Coastal Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), said: “We are treating these offences very seriously - burglary will not be tolerated in the Caister and coastal areas.

“I would like to reassure residents and businesses that we are working in partnership with local holiday sites in order to ensure the necessary crime prevention measures are being taken.

“Our work to identify those responsible for these crimes continues and we will take tough action against any offender(s) found to be committing crime in the area.”

Anyone with information in relation to the incident should phone Caister SNT on 0845 4564567 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Nobody from the holiday park was available for comment.
