Burglary warning for homeowners
HOMEOWNERS are being warned to be vigilant following several distraction and burglaries across the county over the last week or so.In some cases the offenders have posed as window cleaners but in many incidents offenders have gained entry into properties through unlocked doors and stolen items such as handbags and purses.

In some cases the offenders have posed as window cleaners but in many incidents offenders have gained entry into properties through unlocked doors and stolen items such as handbags and purses.
The warmer weather means residents tend to leave their windows and doors unlocked or open which can lead to unwanted people targeting properties and especially those occupied by the vulnerable and elderly.
Supt Nick Dean, of Norwich police, said: “All these incidents are being investigated. However I would like to take this opportunity to urge householders, especially the elderly, to remain vigilant.
“Take note of anyone acting suspiciously in your area and contact police with any concerns.
“We are urging householders to be especially wary of anyone turning up on their doorstep unannounced, who cannot provide credible identity documents.

“Utility workers usually make an appointment and do not operate by trying to gain access to your home.”
Police are also giving the following advice:
Elderly householders should be on their guard and members of the public who have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour or relative should be vigilant.
Always ask for identification from any unexpected callers and do not let anyone in if you are not comfortable with who they are.
Councils and utilities companies will generally contact householders by telephone or letter if they plan to carry out repairs rather than make unsolicited calls.
