A village fish and chip shop has said that it is reducing opening hours in an attempt to keep prices low for customers.

Lingwood Chippy will no longer be opening at lunchtime due to rising costs.

Manager Andy Musk said: "We're going through what a lot of small businesses are going through at the minute.

"It's an attempt to mitigate overheads and costs.

"We weren't making enough to warrant opening at lunchtime.

"But it's been really nice to see that our regulars have started coming in the evening instead rather than going elsewhere.

"There's a real sense of community here and people seem to want to keep supporting us."

Mr Musk said reducing hours was done in an effort to keep their food prices down.

"It's a double-edged sword but what we don't want to do is put prices up and alienate people," he said.

"Money's tight for everyone and we don't want a fish dinner to start costing people £50. For some, that's a week's shopping.

"But we're not the only ones, the whole industry is struggling with this."

Lingwood Chippy is now open from 4.30pm to 8pm Tuesday to Saturday.
