Driven by an angler’s passion and taking a lead from an unlikely household source an inventor is hoping his new piece of kit will catch the imagination of the fishing community.

David Moore created Top-Baiter after looking for something to help him when float fishing but discovered there was nothing suitable on the market.

He set out to fill the gap in the market and was advised that his prototype would be good for carp fishing leading to a change in direction.

Initially Mr Moore was inspired by the design of an underarm roll-on deodorant to create a basket with a sliding spherical float to release bait.

“I wanted to go float fishing in the sea,” he said. “I went off to Sea Palling but my bait kept disintegrating as soon as it hit the water. I came back home and thought how can I solve this problem.”

After running out of steam during an initial attempt to get the product created Mr Moore, who has founded FirstFlow Creations to sell the product, was put in touch with manufacturing consultant Paul Goodman who has helped him to move the project on.

Mr Moore said: “It makes it simple. Everything is in one place at one time in front of the fish.

“Everyone who has seen it, or got their hands on it, likes it.”

The pair have taken the invention to trade shows to spread the word and have consulted with professional anglers to see who could make the best use of it.

Top-Baiter is currently being sold through Aylsham firm Pellpax and the duo are hoping to get it into retailers for the next carp fishing season, which kicks off in the summer.

Mr Moore is already working on an adapted model for other types of fishing.
