A new way of networking emerged online last night when dozens of Great Yarmouth businesses took part in the #GYHour on Twitter.

The first #GYHour - where businesses make contact and talk via the social network site by including the words ‘#GYHour’ in their tweets, launched on Tuesday night and is due to take place between 7pm and 8pm every Tuesday from now on.

Hailing it a huge success, Yarmouth-based marketing and social media adviser Vick Smith, who organised the networking event in association with business support group enterpriseGY, said: “The first #GYHour kicked off with over 250 tweets between business people from the Great Yarmouth area in an online networking event on Twitter.

“Attendees began tweeting well before the 7pm start with GY Lunch Club (@GYLunchclub), myself (@GYSocialMedia) and Jessica Collin (@Jessica_NWES) breaking the ice.

“From local flooring firms to coach companies, attendees made new contacts and plans to meet face to face to build new business relationships. “And the networking continued long after the 8pm finish.”
