CADETS from 2356 (Caister) Squadron Air Training Corps attended summer camp at RAF Valley in Anglesey. They had a good week visiting different sections of the station as well as sports, bowling, drill competition, orienteering and high ropes.

Much to the girls’ delight, Prince William waved to them as he flew over in his helicopter.

Awards received included Cdt Lee Sharp gaining a certificate for best effort, Cpl Jamie Stringer for most improved cadet and Cpl Paul Avery, who not only was in charge of the best Flight but he was also Best Cadet and part of his reward was a flight in a Hawk. He described the experience as out of this world, describing how he had flown at 5,000ft and 400mph with a low pass over Liverpool Docks and a touch and go at Liverpool Airport.

Four of the cadets who attended camp are pictured, from left: Cdt Lucy Bentley, Cpl Paul Avery, Cpl Jamie Stringer and Cdt Frank Barquinha.

After returning home, some of the cadets took part in a six squadron challenge organised by Broadlands Squadron; a full day of sporting activities ending with a barbecue and Caister finished third.

The Caister squadron is holding an open afternoon at their HQ in Edinburgh Close, starting at noon and ending with a barbecue at 6.30pm.

There will be a variety of activities taking place and visitors will be welcome to join in with the cadets.

Anyone interested in attending or for more details about the squadron, can call Flt Lt Pam Chart on 01493 745403 or 07880 956489.
