Caister Junior School said farewell to Mike O'Reilly after 12 years as the school's head.

The children performed a celebratory assembly to mark his time at the school and the 40th anniversary of the Caister Lifeboat. Derek George attended all the assemblies and was presented with poems written by the pupils, a lifeboat cake make by three year 6 girls and after a non-school uniform day and a collection made during one of the performances a cheques was handed to Derek for £146.97.

One pupil resembled Mike O'Reilly during the performance and even carried the infamous brown briefcase. The Year 6 girls also presented Mike with a retirement cake and then Derek George set a challenge for Mike, and assembly organisers Beth Aldous and Claire Huke to dress up in full lifeboat uniform. Staff, Governors and friends celebrated Mike's retirement with a leisurely trip on the Southern Comfort boat on the broads. Golf gifts were given to Mike to enhance his new found pastime of playing golf. Mike said he would remember everyone at school when he tees off on the green.
