THERE was a special oriental visitor to Caister First and Nursery School on Monday last week.

Yi-Ding Wan, a UEA student, worked in the school throughout the day, talking to reception children about Chinese new year.

Activities also included teaching the children some Chinese phrases, using chopsticks and painting Chinese dragons.

Class teacher, Miss Walpole, who is also international co-ordinator at the school said: “The children were really interested and engaged in the activities. They developed a good awareness of the Chinese culture.”

Yi-Ding also gave a presentation to the whole school and taught pupils and staff how to say Happy New Year in Mandarin Chinese.
