PUPILS from Caister Junior School were visited by Mark from Portals to the Past to create a living history day as part of the Ancient Egypt Week celebrations for Year 3. During the week pupils had undertaken activities including choosing an Egyptian name for themselves, constructing pyramids in a numeracy challenge, Egyptian dancing and making jewellery.

On Friday, when wearing Egyptian style costumes, they were treated to a quiz using information boards, they learned how to understand Egyptian numerals and were lucky to see a variety of artifacts. A highlight for many was the very realistic mummification session when pupils were shown how to prepare a body, remove its internal organs and how to wrap it in bandages!

The day ended with a story session and a visit to the classrooms by parents, relatives and carers to see items of work on display. Egyptian year leader “Banafrit” Freeman expressed how impressive the children and staff all looked in their Egyptian outfits which helped the day have a authentic Egyptian theme.
