All of the display panels at the Caister Lifeboat Experience have been redesigned and include video content throughout.

The new displays give a greater insight into the life-saving work of the independent Caister Lifeboat charity.

It also explains more about the running of the organisation.

It includes a section on beach safety so that visitors to the area can ensure a day on the beach does not end in tragedy.

MORE; lifeboat is gifted to stationAndrew Turner, a member of the crew who is overseeing the upgrade, said this was the biggest alteration to the Caister Lifeboat Experience since it opened 10 years ago.

“We decided after a decade it was time to give our visitors more,” he said.

“So we’ve lifted the lid on some of the inner workings of Caister Lifeboat that visitors are curious about.

“But this refresh also offers our long-standing supporters and visitors something new in a fun and exciting way.

“The old displays, which tell the history of Caister Lifeboat since 1794 have been re-used to create a giant book, meaning all of that information is still available.“

Lifeboat chairman Paul Garrod said: “I think when visitors leave a donation for Caister Lifeboat they want the money to be put towards saving lives.

“However it is important to reinvest some money in telling our story and explaining our work to keep our museum as popular as it has become.

“It’s by understanding our story that now supporters choose to donate or remember us in their will, and that allows us to continue to help those in distress. So this investment will help save lives.”

Visitors will also be able to see the Shirley Jean Adye, the nation’s first independent offshore lifeboat that operated from Caister from 1973 until 1991.

Caister Lifeboat Experience by the station in Tan Lane is open from 10am to 3.30pm over the Easter holiday and then is open Wednesday, Sundays and bank holidays at the same times until October 31.
