AN appeal for tour guides has been made by the Caister Lifeboat Heritage Centre team for what they hope will be a busy summer season.

Opened last August, the centre is based in the old lifeboat shed in Tan Lane and has a range of memorabilia showing the history of the service, including an old lifeboat, maps, and lists all the rescues the service has been involved with in its history - as well as the tragedies.

It is now inviting people interested in volunteering some of their time on open days to go and meet Caister Lifeboat's director Harry Barker on Sunday.

Lifeboat chairman, Paul Garrod, said: “Though we have no problem with crew, we could really do with anything up to 20 or 30 volunteers who would go on a rota over the summer season. We rely on donations and this could be a way of someone donating their time, and at the same time they would learn more about the club while acting as a guide for others.”

Caister Lifeboat became independent of the RNLI in 1969, and the heritage centre opens every Wednesday and Sunday, 10am-4pm.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Paul Garrod on 07775604668.
