Residents have spoken of their shock after hearing a large gang of youths gathered to watch a fight at Caister’s playing field.

Police are investigating reports that saw dozens of youngsters watched two youths fight on the playing field’s multi use games area on Thursday night.
There were reports that between 50 and 150 young people may have watched on.

A woman who lives by the field and did not want to be named said she was shocked to hear what had happened and added: “What’s the matter with them? They have gone nutty these days.”

A male neighbour said he had heard loud voices from the playing field, but did not hear anything sounding like a fight.

he said: “I heard raised voices and thought it was youngsters sitting on the fence. If I had heard fighting I would have called the police.”

Another witness said they saw 20 youths on bikes heading to the playing field.

The fight was reported to police at about 6pm.

A total of ten police officers, including a dog unit, were called out and the youths dispersed and fled the scene.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said no offences had yet been recorded and no arrests were made, although an investigation is ongoing.
