A SOLUTION could soon be found for flooding problems in a Caister pensioner's back garden during heavy rainfall.

Staff from Lidl supermarket in Caister visited the home of Bernard Dyball, 74, in Saxon Gardens to discuss problems with a leaking manhole cover between his back garden and the supermarket.

Wendy Hurst, acquisitions manager at Lidl, was present during the visit on Friday and told Mr Dyball that engineers would be checking the inside of the manhole cover with a camera to determine whether there was a blockage causing it to overflow.

He said the problems stemmed back to the original planning of the store which had been built 5ft higher than the lowest part of his garden, causing water to flow down onto his property.

In July, he told the Mercury the problems had become so bad he had been forced to create an open drain to carry water from his back garden into the road in front of his home.

On Monday, he said: “I am going to give them a fair chance, I will give them their do. At least they have responded to my problems. The big problem is they have built the land up so high from the superstore to my garden.”

Wendy said: “At the moment we are basically doing an internal investigation into the drains and negotiating with the relevant parties.”
