DEVELOPERS working on plans to increase the size of Tesco's Caister store by a third and build a new village hall say the project is “progressing normally.”
Nick Wright, director of developer Tamsland, said the plans for both buildings were being finalised, while staff were also addressing concerns drains, dykes and sewers would not be able to cope with the new store in Yarmouth Road.
The fears were raised by nearby residents attending a public exhibition for the plans at Caister Village Hall in December.
Mr Wright said Tesco hoped to submit a planning application for the new store to Yarmouth borough council soon.
The new £1m village hall will be created on an area of council-owned grassland on the other side of the access road to the current store.
The current car park will be extended to take the land occupied by the current Tesco, providing enough space for 350 cars, while the village's youth centre in Yarmouth Road will be demolished and replaced with the new village hall.
The entrance to the new store will face the access road which will remain so customers travelling by car will have to cross the road to get to the supermarket.
