Caister Parish Council has set up a committee of four councillors to conduct a feasibility study among Caister children, asking them what they would like to see on the 10 acre site off West Road.

The land is being set aside by developer Bloor Homes as part of a 150 home development at West Road after an agreement was reached whereby the plot, currently being used as a borrow pit, would be given to the council under a legal agreement as part of the planning permission.

The pit site will be transferred to the council once the 100th home has been occupied. Currently, 75 homes have been occupied.

Parish council chairman Tony Overill hoped the feasibility study would be the first step to solving problems with youths behaving anti-socially in the village due to a lack of things to do.

In April, the Mercury reported concerns that adults were supplying children under 18 with alcohol in the Tan Lane area after buying the booze from village stores.

Mr Overill has also reported to meetings of windows being smashed at the village hall on the corner of Yarmouth Road and Tan Lane.

He said: “This is at the very early stages at the moment, it is just a feasibility study, but we will be asking them whether they want such things as a shelter so, instead of hanging around the village, they can have their own area to sit and talk.”

Caister Cricket Club is also hoping to use the borrow pit site because it will provide the club with extra space to enable it to achieve its ambition of joining the Norfolk Cricket Alliance.

They need a bigger pitch to comply with Alliance standards.
