Come on down to the beach and help keep it clear of rubbish.
That is the message from organisers of two beach clean events in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston.
This Sunday Surfers Against Sewage and Sea Shepherds UK have organised an autumn beach clean by Britannia Pier from 10am.
Mark Bradnum, East Anglian representative for Surfers Against Sewage, said: “As we come into autumn our beaches see the first of the autumn storm surges bring in huge amounts of litter to our beaches, so it’s time to show how much we care.
“Everything is supplied so all you need to do is bring yourselves and a warm coat.
“Organised in collaboration with Sea Shepherds UK, we will be undertaking a beach clean starting at the Britannia Pier with a briefing to what is affecting our marine environment. Come join us.”
Then in Gorleston a beach clean will be held on Sunday, November 5 from 10am to noon with people asked to meet at Marina Bay Cafe.
It has been organised by Melanie Ruse and Peter Kirkpatrick and has been facilitated by the Marine Conservation Society.
Litter picking equipment will be provided by Great Yarmouth Borough Council and the Great Yarmouth Lions Club have donated £50 to kit out stewards with hi–vis jackets and gloves.
Marina Bay Cafe is offering discounts on food and drinks to participants and Jay Jays is offering a hot drink for £1, The Stormhouse Café will be offering a free hot drink with every purchase and the Doggie Diner will have special offers in place too.
Mr Kirkpatrick said: We are already planning to do this twice a year, at the end of the season and around Easter. By that time the idea is to have a small committee in place.
The first event will take place on November 5 at the Marina Bay Café, starting at 10am. Registration and briefing from 9.30am and we expect to be finished by 12. Children and dogs are welcome under parents/owners supervision.
It will tie in with the Remembrance Sunday Parade as we are hoping to have enough volunteers to have a team tidying up the quayside too.
