A Norfolk schoolgirl is hoping to trump the competition when she takes part in a national schools card game final tomorrow .

Jasmin Honour, 11, has seen off more than 100,000 other UK school children to make the grand finals of the National Top Trumps Schools Tournament which this year is themed around the London 2012 edition of a new Top Trumps tournament game.

Just 12 youngsters have made it to the final and Jasmin, a pupil at Homefield Primary School in Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth, is one of those elite dozen.

She will now compete with other youngsters aged from seven to 11 in London in a bid to become Britain's top 'Top Trumper'.

Hayley Bond, teacher and organiser of the tournament at Homefield Primary School, said: 'We are extremely proud to have Jasmin representing Homefield as our finalist.

'She is really deserving of this honour as she has worked tenaciously to achieve her place.

'Let's hope she can bring the trophy home to Bradwell.'

The grand final takes place in London and the child who takes the top spot will win a rowing experience with Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave on the River Thames.

Sir Steve will also be present at the grand final and will officially crown the winner. All 12 finalists will get to meet Sir Steve and the winning youngster also picks up a trophy.

Jasmin said: 'I can't wait! It will be an honour to meet Sir Steve Redgrave.'

She added: 'I have learnt so many things about the Olympics. If I were to be crowned the nation's top Top Trumps champion it would be amazing.'

To reach the final Jasmin had to first trump classmates at her school to become the Top Trumps school champion before the next gruelling round - an intensive online competition. At this stage she had to battle against hundreds of other school champs across the UK to land her place among the grand final. The final will be played on a special commemorative bumper version of Top Trumps, which features London 2012 medal hopefuls.
