Suspected drink-driver crashes into ambulance sent to serious assault

An ambulance responding to a serious assault was crashed into at the scene by a suspected drink-driver.

The crash happened in St Peters Road in Great Yarmouth in the early hours of this morning and saw a policeman standing by the ambulance suffer a minor leg injury.

Police were called at about 12.50am after a man was attacked with a pole and suffered facial injuries which needed hospital treatment.

While emergency services were responding to the incident, a Mercedes CLA crashed into the back of the stationary ambulance.

The police officer who suffered minor leg injuries was taken to hospital and discharged at 4am.

The driver, a man in his mid-30s, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to provide a breath test.

He remains in police custody.

In regard to the assault a man in his mid-20s has been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of assault and remains in custody
