The Manor House, in Yarmouth Road, Blofield, currently houses 20 residents, but owner Swan and Cygnet Care has applied for permission to build a residential dementia unit, which will provide another 20 bedrooms and facilities to care for people with dementia.
The family-run and Norfolk-based Swan and Cygnet Care, which bought the Manor House last November, specialises in offering care for people with dementia. Swan and Cygnet Care, which is run by Malcolm Blackham and his son Robert and daughter Sally Crawford, runs four care homes in Norfolk and Suffolk.
As well as the premises in Blofield, it has The Moorings in Earsham, where its headquarters is based, Cresta Lodge in Poringland, and Chevington Lodge in Bungay.
Malcolm Blackham said: “You have to be licensed to look after people with dementia and so it makes sense to build a sufficient wing with facilities for this, including a sensory garden, so that people don't have to move.”
