HORSES used to the confines of the carousel will be jockeying for first place at an equine beauty contest being held at Great Yarmouth Racecourse.
On Easter Bank holiday Monday, April 25, 30 of the carousel creatures from Pleasurewood Hills will be judged having been lovingly restored by art students from across the region.
The youngsters from schools and colleges across the East of England, including Great Yarmouth College, were challenged to re-design the bodywork horses’ bodywork.
From 12pm on the day the public will be able to judge the entries, with racing commentator Derek Thompson delivering their racing form. The finalist horses will then make their way to the Parade Ring where professional jockeys, experts from the race course and representatives from Pleasurewood Hills will select a winner. The winning creations will be invited to the Winner’s Enclosure, and the horses will return to action to the theme park’s carousel shortly after.
Alexis Camelin, general manager at Pleasurewood Hills, said: “It’s been great getting the students involved in our first project of this kind, I can’t wait to see what they have come up with.”
