COMMUNITY groups in north Norfolk struggling to cope during the economic downturn are getting the chance of a much-needed financial boost.
Victory Housing Trust, which manages more than 4,700 properties in the district, has pledged to increase its contribution to a local community fund by 40pc this year.
The cash, which has gone up from 25,000 to 35,000, will benefit volunteer and community groups at a time when they are coming under increasing pressure.
Victory's chief executive John Archibald said: “At times of economic uncertainty, the demand for the kind of services provided by community groups grows - just as their income is put under increasing pressure because people have less money to donate to support their activities.”
The fund gives out grants of up to 5,000 to groups working to promote health and wellbeing, tackling disadvantage and improving links within communities.
