AN evening of nostalgia netted more than 1,500 towards a 1.5m appeal to build a dedicated palliative care centre.
The event, held at St Paul's Church in Great Yarmouth, was led by Colin Tooke and John Farmer, and raised a total of 1,572.
Joy Handford, who organised the event with friends, is pictured presenting a cheque to Hugh Sturzaker, a patron of the Palliative Care East appeal which aims to build a centre in the grounds of the James Paget University Hospital and will serve patients from Yarmouth and Waveney.
Meanwhile, the appeal will officially launch the event massive fundraising event Embrace at the hospital next month.
The event, which offers a mixture of sporting activities, music and comedy, with a three-mile fun run open to everyone, will take place at Great Yarmouth Racecourse on August 9.
Entry forms for the fun run will be available from next month and the event is being organised Palliative
Care East and BWell Health Club.
Starting on April 30 and on the last Thursday of each month until July, BWell instructors will be at Gorleston clifftop offering advice and support to wannabe-participants who want to get fit.
Forthcoming events include a sponsored dog walk at Gorleston clifftop on April 19; BBC Radio Norfolk's comedy quiz, Should the team Think, Gorleston Pavilion, April 24 and the Yarmouth Rotary Club's charity fun walk at Somerleyton on May 17.

Donations can be made online at www.palliative-care-east.org.uk.
In the Mercury last week we published a list of donations made to Palliative Care East, and based on information received from appeal organisers, we said a donation had been made in memory of Beryl Brown. The Mercury has been asked by appeal organisers to make clear that Beryl is not bereaved.
The donation was printed in good faith based on information supplied to us. Palliative Care East apologises for any distress caused to the family.
