Casting call for sitcom pilot based in Great Yarmouth

A month on since 5,000 extras were requested for a Danny Boyle beach scene and another casting call has been launched in Great Yarmouth.
The scale of this project though, is quite different.
The sitcom is being driven by a team of three, who are hoping to produce a pilot with zero budget.
The comedy is set in a fictional town and revolves around a regional news team covering a big-money annual darts tournament held at a local holiday resort.
Double Top has been written and will be directed by video sketch show creator, improvised comic and previous winner of TV programme, Beauty and the Geek, John Gethin.
He said: “We’re keen to cast it locally. This pilot will work if we get the right people, which is basically just amusing people - particularly for the darts players, which is where a lot of the comedy lies.
“I like the idea of celebrating people who want to live in the 80s and 90s and that’s what our main character Scotty Bevis is all about. He is a classic example of somebody who thinks he is a very big fish in a very small pond, a sort of David Brent kind of character.
“There is one character who I would say is properly Yarmouth, and that is John ‘The Cowboy’ Wayne - not named after the actor, but the two people who are most likely to be his father.
“I would love to cast him locally, ideally someone without a lot of acting experience because he needs to seem quite natural, compared to the overtop Scotty Bevis, who would suit someone who fancies himself as a comedian and wants to show off.”
Mr Gethin has written way beyond the pilot, but admits he made it harder for himself than strictly necessary.
“Each episode ends with a 180 pun, which is such a stupid way to go about it, because I had to reverse engineer every episode from an increasingly tenuous final line.”
Katherine Nicholls, from Belton, will produce and act in the pilot and David J Stebbeds will also act and provide technical support.
The team are hoping to film the pilot in the Great Yarmouth area in August.
