The owner of a cat that was run over and killed has appealed for motorists to slow down in his road.

Leela, who was three years old, was killed yesterday afternoon in Western Road in Gorleston.

She was owned by Jamie Robertson, 37, and his partner Gemma Simmonds and they had had her since she was a kitten.

Leela, who was named after the Doctor Who companion from the 1970s, was killed at about 5pm and Mr Robertson was alerted to her death by a neighbour who saw her body in the road.

Mr Robertson said the road is a cut through by motorists and speeding was a problem.

He said he believed in the last five years about half a dozen cats had been killed there and feared that children could be next.

He is now contacting Norfolk County Council, which is responsible for the road, to demand action be taken.

Mr Robertson said: “We had Leela for most of her life and Gemma is devastated. Something needs to be done down here, it could be a child next.”
