DEATH and taxes are said to be the only things certain in life - but money from a cemetery is helping keep the lid on Council Tax bills in Burgh Castle.
Residents can expect to pay slightly less towards the parish council's share of the tax next year as result of cash raised from an increased number of burials at the village cemetery during the last year.
At a meeting this week parish councillors agreed to set aside £3,000 to purchase an additional site for a cemetery.
Negotiations are taking place with a landowner in the village, but parish council chairman Trevor Greenacre told the Mercury he was unable to reveal more details until the sale had been agreed.
A new site is not expected to be needed for another 25 to 30 years when space runs out at the present burial ground in Church Road.
