A pensioner has praised a community bus driver for going the extra mile – defying the snow to get her to hospital for an operation.
Cathie Pike, 82, from Bradwell near Great Yarmouth was geared up for a cataract operation on Wednesday morning after months of waiting.
She had booked a dial-a-ride door-to-door bus from Centre 81 to get her to the James Paget Hospital and back – but when the Beast from the East blizzards arrived she feared the worst.
However, Sean Nolan, her driver, refused to let the weather get away of fulfilling her booking, braving the icy conditions to get her to her operation on time.
She said: “Sean was magnificent, If it had not been for him, the operation would not have happened. He is worth his weight in gold.”
Mr Nolan, 65, added: “I would have done it for any of the passengers, but I know Cathie from previous trips and was please to help - even though she is a Sunderland fan and I support Newcastle.”
