From Hemsby to Gorleston, a raft of route, bus and timetable changes will affecting passengers across Great Yarmouth borough.

From May 29, there will be changes to the services No 1 to No 9, as well as a new service to Norwich.

First Bus has made the changes, it says, following feedback from passengers.

It has resulted in a reduction of routes operating across the Yarmouth area to focus more on punctual and reliable service.

A statement from First Bus said: 'As a result of passenger feedback and to reflect changes in demand and in the light of new developments in the area, we're making some changes to our service.

'As part of these changes, we've had to make the difficult decision to reduce the number of routes that operate cross town to make our buses more punctual and reliable for the majority of passengers.

'Where these cross town links still exist, we've added extra time to allow for delays caused by traffic along the routes.'

Steve Hewitt from the East Norfolk Transport Users Association said the main point of contention was the No 7 service.

A petition had recently been launched as a stretch of Beccles Road in Bradwell, will no longer be served during the day from Mondays to Saturdays.

The No 7 service between Belton and Great Yarmouth will be replaced during the day by the new X11 service, which will instead go along the new A12/143 link road. Beccles Road will still however be served by the No 7 on evenings and Sundays.

Mr Hewitt said: 'Our chairman Tony Grice attended a parish council meeting of Browston and Belton parish council and they are hoping to arrange a public meeting together with Bradwell parish council, to allow people to speak about the issues there and we hope to get MP Brandon Lewis onboard.

'However I think the majority of the changes are actually quite sensible. The fact they are allowing themselves more time for journeys is very good as traffic around places such as Southtown can be really bad at times and the buses as a result are always late.

'Other highlights include the No 3 service which will serve more stops and they are also making changes to avoid roads like Deneside, which due to parking issues, makes it really difficult for buses to squeeze through.'

After a recent meeting of the ENTUA, some concerns had been raised by residents of Tessera Park which will now only be served once an hour rather than every half an hour.

Similar concerns were also made from people who get the bus at Cliff Park.
