Jane Chappell-Hyam could hardly contain her excitement as Uber Cool won the feature race on Ladies Day, the final day of the Great Yarmouth Eastern Festival.
The trainer jumped for joy after seven-pound claiming apprentice Ray Dawson held off champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa on Elegiac to win the £20,000 Dan Hague Betting Handicap by a neck after a 14-furlong thriller.
Uber Cool won at Goodwood and Haydock earlier this season but was beaten in Royal Ascot's Queen Alexandra Stakes.
'After Ascot he came home with a bad cut. He had eight stitches and it has taken time to get him back, 89 days, but who's counting?' said the Newmarket-based handler.
'He may get a six-pound penalty for winning and that might get him in the Cesarewitch,' she added, believing the step up to 18 furlongs would not be an issue for the 17/2 winner.
The day's riding honours went to Oisin Murphy. After having a winner on Tuesday and two on Wednesday, he notched a hat-trick.
He got 4/1 chance Isaan Queen home in the opening six-furlong nursery. The Archie Watson-trained filly moved through in the final furlong to beat well-backed Watchmyeverymove.
An impressive performance followed when Murphy won on the William Haggas-trained newcomer Hidden Message in the Ken Lindsay Memorial Fillies' Novice Stakes over six furlongs.
Once Murphy asked the Scat Daddy filly to lengthen, the 13/8 favourite burst clear to beat Newcastle winner Promote and Isango.
In the six-furlong handicap he again had to be at his best to squeeze the James Fanshawe-trained Mazzini home in a tight finish with Polybius. The 6/1 winner completed Murphy's 51/1 treble.
Trainer Lucy Wadham is a familiar figure in the Fakenham winner's enclosure with her jumpers, but her mare Potters Lady Jane took the spoils, at 13/2, under Josephine Gordon, in the fillies' 11-furlong handicap. Top jockey at the course this season, Jamie Spencer, added another win when the Luca Cumani-trained Felix took the mile novice stakes. The field went a real dawdle early and that played into the hands of 10/1 shot Felix. De Sousa finally got on the scoresheet when he won the finale, the Intu Chapelfield Handicap, on the Simon Crisford-trained Nobleman's Nest, 5/2 favourite.
