Caister Cricket Club and Hethersett Memorial Playing Field Trust will each receive £1,000 as part of the Persimmon Homes Anglia Community Champions matchfunding programme.

Cister Cricket Club has enjoyed a very successful season, with the undefeated Saturday team winning promotion to Division One of the Norfolk Cricket League while the Sunday side lost just one match on their way to a Division Two title.

Club volunteers maintain pitches and the match-funding donation from Persimmon Homes will enable them to purchase a mower and tools.

Hethersett Memorial Playing Fields have football pitches, croquet lawns, a bowling green and playground. The Trust that manages it plans to rebuild and extend the pavilion to provide a focal point for the whole community to enjoy.

Andrew Fuller, managing director for Persimmon Homes Anglia, said: “Supporting local organisations that create a sense of community for local people is a core aim of our project, and both of these groups certainly play an important role in their neighbourhoods.

“So far, Community Champions has handed over £1m to good causes across the UK and it’s great to see so many charities and community groups benefiting.”

Organisations can apply for match funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.
