A GALAXY of Star Wars characters will descend on Great Yarmouth's Market Place on Sunday for a money-spinning charity event.

Organisers of Helping to Change Someone's Life Today are praying the force - and good weather - will be with them between 10am and 4pm for a raft of events including a talent show and the results of this year's Miss Great Yarmouth competition.

Other attractions include stalls, fancy dress competitions and an auction.

Last year's hit event raised more than £2,000 in just six hours for Children in Need and Cancer Research UK.

The full crew of Star Wars characters will be on hand throughout the day to entertain sci-fi buffs, including Darth Maul, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, storm troopers and ewoks. Memorabilia from the series of epic movies will also be on display.

The East Coast Scooter Club makes a welcome return and a panel will judge the best in show.

There is a children's fancy dress competition for ages newborn to two, three to six and seven upwards. The competition starts at 11am and will be followed by a parade around the Market Place. Prizes will be awarded to best girl and boy in each category.

A bed of nails, face painting, stalls, line dancing and live music by band Canine Feeline are included in the fun mix. Items on offer in the auction of promises include signed photographs of Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton and legendary rockers Bon Jovi as well as tickets to local attractions.

At noon, all eyes will turn to the mayor Terry Easter who will announce the winner of this year's Miss Great Yarmouth competition.

All week Mercury readers have been voting for their favourites and the top three finalists will appear at Sunday's event where the contestant with the most votes will be crowned Miss Great Yarmouth 2008.

In the afternoon crowds will get a glimpse of what Yarmouth has to offer when the Yarmouth's Got Talent contest hits the stage. All money raised from this year's event will go towards Children in Need and Cancer Research UK.
