Children affected by the Chernobyl disaster ended their recuperative break in Great Yarmouth with a party hosted by the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Club.

Seventeen children and their host families were treated to fun and games thanks to donations and the generosity of people like Knockout Entertainment who gave their services for free.

Kevin Garwood who runs the club said members always liked to help local good causes and this year decided to lay on the party as a treat for the youngsters who had enjoyed a range of activities during their stay.

Held at Lichfield Community Centre on Sunday the party was hailed a great success. Mr Garwood said: “It was lovely. It was quite amazing because the children could not speak English and the adults could not speak Belarusian but we still managed to communicate and it was very good to see the fantastic smiles on all of the children's faces.”

The O-Yama-Ryu club means Big Mountain School in Japanese and teaches self-defence techniques from a variety of styles aimed at adults and children. For more information call 01493 656538.
