Festive fixers and Christmas crafters can enjoy two free craft workshops in the first week of December, culminating in a Christmas craft fair at the Great Yarmouth Library.

At the two workshops, residents of Great Yarmouth will have the opportunity to participate under the expert guidance of Angie and Jane, of Community Craft Room.

The first workshop, taking place on Wednesday, December 2, from 10am to noon in the library, is a festive stamp-carving and print-making workshop, enabling adult crafters to create and keep their very own festive stamps.

Crafters will carve their festive stamp from a soft, easy-to-carve lino block, using specialist tools. There will be a choice of templates, or people can create their own design for a stamp. Booking is required for this adult workshop.

The second workshop, taking place on Saturday, December 5, from 11am to 2pm in the children’s library, will see children and their parents work together to create a festive fun collage using coloured paper and other materials. This workshop is aimed at children aged three to 14 and does not need to be booked.

The craft week is an outreach event organised by Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s business support service, enterpriseGY. It is being run in support of Small Business Saturday UK, on Saturday, December 5, a grassroots, non-political, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

Earlier this year, the borough council secured £650,000 from the Government’s Coastal Communities Fund, which is supporting a two-year programme of enhanced work by enterpriseGY to back enterprise and the local economy.

To round off the craft week in style, the third enterpriseGY Christmas Fair will take place at the library on Saturday, December 5, from 10am to 3pm. The free fair will see 15 local arts, craft, gift and food businesses offering their seasonal fare in the first floor Northgate Room.
