The idea for the day was developed by the school council in conjunction with Chris Smith.
On the day the children worked with external agencies on a variety of “green” activities. Year Four worked with Norfolk Wildlife Trust to explore the variety of wildlife within the school grounds and to construct insect homes. Year Five worked with the RSPCA to consider different ways in which the grounds could be improved for wildlife. Year Six children looked at waste reduction with support from the School Waste Action Club. As part of their day these children made their own recycled paper and also discovered the joys of composting by searching for the minibeasts which busy themselves in the compost heap. And Year Seven investigated climate change and renewable energy sources, working with the BP Carbon Challenge Roadshow.
The day was non-uniform and children are asked to wear something green, with each child making a small donation for the privilege. Around £175 was raised which will be donated to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the RSPCA.
The school kitchen, in keeping with the day's theme, produced a special “green” menu - so for at least one day this year the children had to “eat their greens.”
