TWO pupils from Cliff Park High in Gorleston put their engineering skills to the test to win the local heat of the Junior Engineers Knex Challenge, held at Simpsons Skoda in Great Yarmouth. Toby Middleton and Matthew Wigmore worked together to solve an engineering problem and created a model out of Knex. The pair also had to give a short presentation explaining their design. They will now go on to represent the area at the county finals at Hethel Engineering Centre on May 6. George Mann and Calum Bromley from St Nicholas Priory Middle School, in Yarmouth, were runners up. Nine schools in the borough took part in the challenge and young wannabe engineers aged nine to 11 worked in pairs. The winner of the county heat will take part in the Eastern region final on July 3, and those winners will go forward to the national final on July 15. Pictured are Toby and Matthew with their winning model and Howard Clayton, sales manager Simpsons Skoda.
